JC Penneys New Pricing Strategy

If you've read my blog for a while, you know I love my yardsales and thrift stores. But I've been known to occasionally (gasp!!) shop at stores such as JC Penneys and Kohls. But I only make a purchase if I know I got a good bargain. Low prices are good, but free is even better. I present you with:

So yesterday I went to Penneys to check out their new pricing strategy. (Don't worry, I didn't make a special trip just to go there, but it was near the Outback Steakhouse we had dinner at, so it was convenient. And you know I got a deal at Outback - back in December I purchased a $100 gift card and got a $20 coupon which was going to expire next week, but I digress).

So when I was at Penneys, there were no bargains to look for. Everything was marked with it's "fair and square" price. What fun is that? Zero. None. No bargains for me to look for. With my mad shopping skills, I expect that even in a retail store I can find better bargains than Joe Schmo off the street. Not the same. As an extreme bargain hunting shopper, there was no thrill of the hunt. Lame and boring. Shopping is a sport and I want to win against my competitors (other shoppers). My husband thought it was just fine. What does he know. He's a guy who doesn't get the sport of shopping.

p.s I am especially mourning the loss of the free $10 off anything JC Penney coupons. Waaaaaaa!

I really loved that 10.00 off anything too. I would something for 11.90 and get it almost for free. LOL

I *hate* the new JCPenney pricing/format! Everything just looked expensive to me. I didn't think the fair and square pricing was an improvement. Ugh. We shopped there a lot and this will def be changing :(

Look for the blue tag best price items. They are marked down the first and third fridays of each month.

I remember when Sears tried this same formula and went to everyday low prices. What a disaster that was for Sears.

As retailers, Pennys, sears, others need to keep in mind part of the retail experience is actually shopping for good deals. While we may all like good prices we love "great" prices and the work it takes to get them.

I feel the same way. I will miss the $10 off coupons. That made me want to go to Penneys to shop..

i hope they go back to the old way. at least with the $10 off. I shopped online with the $10 off 25 and in store with the $10 off $10 at least once a month. So far I havent bought a thing from them with the new prices...last jcpenney purchases were black friday :( still regret not buying that luggage set for like $29 lol.
