Weekend Yard Sale Buys

I think having a yardsale on a big holiday weekend (like the 4th of July) is a bad idea and I say so on the website, but nevertheless, I am glad as a shopper, people still do. At one sale yesterday at 10:30 I overheard the seller say "I guess I need to put up some more yard sale signs" - the sale was deserted - and I felt like giving my advice but kept my mouth shut.

And since the 4th fell on a Saturday, many people had Friday off from work and had Friday yardsales. So this is a combination of the stuff I bought Fri & Sat. click on pics to see an enlarged version.

.50 ea - Beverly Lewis books (many duplicates, but I can combine them with others from my stash and make groupings for ebay)
.50 CD U2
$1 CD Steve Miller
$2 each books on CD from Recorded Books which has their distribution center nearby so I think their employees get a hefty discount, since they cost a lot new. (For instance the unabridged 8 CD Anne Frank edition sells for $92.75 on the Recorded Books website. They sell a lot to libraries.)
.50 Paula Deen book (for Xmas for Mom)
.50 Holiday cookbook
$5 xerox paperbox FULL of hardcover and paperback Star Trek books (for eBay)

$1 ea - two duckpin bowling balls (these are like half the size of regular bowling balls)
$1 Build a Bear giraffe
.25 reflective safety triangle
$1 pair of Crocs
.25 FTD white vase
$1 Apollo model (unused)
$2 megaphone
.25 partial package of peat pots - sometimes when I have a yardsale, I will re-pot my Hens & Chicks plants (which I have a ton of because they multiply) and sell them.

.50 new package of Super Cleanse (maybe this will jump start a diet for me. I have 2 weddings to go to in September so the diet starts tomorrow)
.10 Mickey Mouse cookie cutter
$1 bunch of plastic people
$1 gambling inspired charm bracelet (Xmas gift for Mom)
$1 heart necklace
$1 pin
.25 ea - two packages of vintage crab picks

===========
Less than 24 hours until summer camp for Jacob starts. So there is a slight chance that I may go thrift store shopping this week - haha.

Then Tuesday night, I do my volunteer bartending at a Styx/38 Special concert. Probably won't have any pics/videos to share from that (but you never know), they usually don't do a photo line for rock concerts.

p.s. I found a new home already for the white vase. Perfect size & depth for storing kitchen utensils. See pic below. I will yardsale the older, inferior container that I was using.

p.s.s. I forgot to photograph a $1 behind-the-door towel rack. Will add a pic on Monday. Another thing I bought that I forgot to photograph was 4 new in package mylar balloons (4 for $1). I take them to the florist at the grocery store and they fill them with .50 worth of helium. Much cheaper than buying them at full price already blown up at the grocery store.

p.s.s. Edited to add - I just added new pics on my Monday's blog entry.

You did find a lot of stuff! And yes, holidays are bad for yardsales, but good for us who are die-hards.

That Paula Deen book is a steal! It is a really good read - if your mom is a PD fan, she will love it. And the plastic people are Little Tikes Toddle Tots, but you probably already knew that. Great finds!

Great buys. I have read all those books and paid full price. I would die to find Paula Deen at a yard sale. I collect both these authors.

Yes - my mom is a Paula Deen fan. I also bought the PD Celebrates cookbook at a thrift last year to give to my mom, but someone had already given it to her as a gift.

my other Paula Deen find

My sister has met Paula Deen in person - and said she is super nice just like what you see on tv.

Wonderful finds as usual! I occasionally post on the YSQ boards but found you today through Rhoda's.

I saw Paula Deen when she came to Mobile and she is very down to earth. The book you found is a good one--she doesn't try to sugar coat her life. Nice finds!

More fabulous finds! The yardsale fairy is definitely on your shoulder! Great buy on the books! Love Paul Deen, she's quite talented and quite the character! Love the vase for utensils, I found a blue and white one some time back that I use for my utensils. I'll post it next week.

Thanks for sharing all your great deals!
